What We Do
Writing
Roosevelt @ MSU is proud to support our members in writing about the issues they care about, from the high cost of staying fit on campus to the impact of China’s state-sponsored enterprises on Africa. We run student writing on our own blog, as well as contributing pieces to the national network’s annual 10 Ideas policy journals.
Research
In addition to our writing, Roosevelt @ MSU is proud to conduct original research, including a look into University investment in interest rate swaps that we conducted in collaboration with twenty other colleges and universities. This research uncovered more than a hundred million dollars in losses from these swaps at MSU alone and was written up at outlets ranging from The State News to Time Magazine. In 2017, we also published a full report on MSU’s finances.
Activism
We also pride ourselves in our work to put our policy ideas into practice, with activity ranging from events to raise awareness on campus to our annual lobby day at the state capital. In 2019, we met with nearly thirty elected officials from both parties about issues ranging from expanding Michigan’s civil rights protections to financing charter schools to human trafficking in collaboration with Roosevelt @ University of Michigan.
